Phân biệt so sánh hơn và so sánh nhất
Để so sánh 2 sự vật, hiện tượng ta dùng than hoặc as …. as (Comparative Form)
Ví dụ:
S + More + Adjective + than + S
S + Adjective + ER + Than + S
Để so sánh 1 sự vật với hai hoặc nhiều sự vật khác chúng ta sử dụng cấu trúc so sánh nhất (Superlative Form)
S + Be+ the most + Adjective + Noun
S + Be+ the Adjective + Est + Noun
Quy tắc thêm ER hoặc MORE và -EST hoặc Most
Quy tắc này chủ yếu dựa vào loại tính từ, 1 vần, hai vần, hay nhiều vần. Ngoài ra còn có trường hợp ngoại lệ là không theo quy tắc nào cả.
Tính từ chỉ có 1 vần – One-syllable adjectives.
Để bộc lộ mối đối sánh tương quan giữa 2 sự vật, hiện tượng kỳ lạ, tất cả chúng ta cách sử dụng cấu trúc as …. as hoặc than để so sánh. Để so sánh 2 sự vật, hiện tượng kỳ lạ ta dùng than hoặc as …. as ( Comparative Form ) Ví dụ : S + More + Adjective + than + SS + Adjective + ER + Than + SĐể so sánh 1 sự vật với hai hoặc nhiều sự vật khác tất cả chúng ta sử dụng cấu trúc so sánh nhất ( Superlative Form ) S + Be + the most + Adjective + NounS + Be + the Adjective + Est + NounQuy tắc này đa phần dựa vào loại tính từ, 1 vần, hai vần, hay nhiều vần. Nếu tính từ một vần tận cùng bằng e, thì với so sánh hơn, ta chỉ việc thêm -r, đối với so sánh nhất thì ta thêm -st.

Nếu tính từ 1 vần tận cùng là 1 phụ âm và liền trước nó là một nguyên âm thì ta sẽ nhân đôi phụ âm trước khi thêm -er (đối với so sánh hơn) hoặc -est (đối với so sánh nhất)

Hầu hết chúng ta thêm More đối với so sánh hơn và the most đối với so sánh nhất vào phía trước tính từ 2 vần.

Nếu tính từ 2 vần tận cùng là Y thì ta đổi y thành i và thêm –er đối với so sánh hơn, hoặc đổi y thành i and rồi thêm –est.

Tính từ 2 vần tận cùng là –er, -le, hoặc –ow, chúng ta thêm –er và –est vào sau tính từ để thành lập so sánh hơn và so sánh nhất.

Nếu tính từ có 3 hoặc nhiều hơn 3 vần thì chúng ta chỉ việc thêm more đối với so sánh hơn và the most đối với so sánh nhất vào trước tính từ đó.
